Julia Grande was born in Belarus in 1987 and grew up in Russia. In 2013, she moved to Norway and has been living on the coast with her husband and little son ever since.
Julia is a self-taught artist who has always been creative and enjoyed drawing. Unfortunately, she never had the opportunity to attend art school, except for taking some art classes when she was eight years old and some workshops in adulthood. Initially, she started with black and white portrait drawings, but gradually abstraction took over.
Now Julia paints loosely and expressively, and the painting process is like a spiritual practice for her, similar to dynamic meditation. In order to truly express herself, she needs to quiet her chattering mind and follow her intuition. This allows her to paint from a place of momentum, impulse, or instinct, rather than intellect or a “know-it-all” attitude.
