Clear financial terms allow you to sell with confidence. This page explains how payments are calculated and issued, the commission that applies, your responsibilities as the seller of record, and how taxes, chargebacks, and buyer duties are handled. Reading it in full will help you understand exactly what to expect from each sale.
ArtRewards Acts as Your Agent
In every transaction, ArtRewards acts strictly as your agent, facilitating the sale between you and the collector. ArtRewards does not own, buy, or resell your work.
For tax purposes, you are the seller of record for each piece you sell through the platform. This distinction matters, as it defines who is responsible for the tax obligations that accompany a sale — a point covered in detail further below.
Commission and Your Share
ArtRewards retains a 35% commission on each completed sale. You receive the remaining 65% of the proceeds following successful delivery.
Commission is calculated on the final sale price of the work. Where you have approved a discount in advance, the commission is applied to the discounted net price — the amount the buyer actually pays — rather than the original listed figure.
When You Are Paid
Payment is issued after a sale reaches successful delivery and the buyer confirms that the artwork has arrived in satisfactory condition and matches the listing details.
Once that confirmation is received, your payment is processed, with the commission deducted, and issued within 24 hours. This sequence ensures that funds are released only once both parties have confirmed the transaction is complete, protecting you and the collector alike.
How You Are Paid
All artist payments are processed by bank transfer in USD.
You are responsible for any fees charged by your receiving bank, including intermediary or currency-conversion charges that your financial institution may apply. To avoid delays, please ensure the payout details held in your dashboard are accurate and current.
Chargebacks and Refunds
In the event that a chargeback or refund occurs after a payout has already been made, you must return your net proceeds to ArtRewards within seven (7) calendar days of receiving notice.
This provision applies only to funds already paid to you for a transaction that is later reversed or refunded. Keeping clear records of each sale will help you reconcile any such adjustment promptly.
Your Tax Responsibilities
As the seller of record, you manage your own tax affairs in full. This includes income tax, VAT, GST, and any other taxes required under the laws of your jurisdiction.
In practice, this means you:
- Track your earnings from sales made through the platform
- Calculate the tax you owe and pay it on time
- Maintain accurate records of all your transactions
- Understand the tax rules that apply to your circumstances
Staying organized in this way keeps you compliant and helps you avoid complications at the end of a reporting period. ArtRewards does not withhold or remit taxes on your behalf.
Customs and Import Duties
For cross-border sales, the buyer is solely responsible for all customs duties, import taxes, VAT, and any other fees levied by the destination country.
These charges fall outside your payout and are settled directly by the collector. You are not required to calculate, collect, or absorb them.
