About the Artwork

The artwork called Lily Portraits is about reconnecting two people through flowers from nature. In this case, they are lilies. But these flowers have an alienating flesh-like appearance. They seem to possess traits that we would normally attribute to humans and animals, but despite their symbiotic tendencies, they are now in the foreground and are now as important as humans.

About the artist

Stephan B. Reisig was born on July 31, 1964 in Dordrecht, a city in the Dutch province of Zuid-Holland. When he was around one-and-a-half or two years old, his family moved to South Limburg. From an early age, Reisig had a strong desire to express himself creatively, and he consistently pursued various creative activities such as drawing, painting, basket weaving, knitting, and photography throughout his schooling. He attended short periods of teacher training in drawing and handicrafts, and later enrolled in the Fashion Academy Fashion Design in Maastricht, where he exhibited his fashion illustrations with modest success. Reisig then briefly worked as an illustrator for a well-known fashion brand before being admitted to the prestigious Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 1988. He graduated Cum Laude in 1990, and has been living and working as a professional artist in Amsterdam ever since.

Proof of Provenance

A Proof of Provenance is an official document that establishes the genuine nature of an artwork. Issued by a credible authority, this may be signed directly by the creator, the gallery representing the creator, or the specialist who collaborated with the artist. In cases of traded artworks, authenticated bodies or designated foundations may issue such certifications.

These documents are comprehensive, usually detailing the artist’s name, specifics of the artwork (including title, creation date, materials used, size), and ideally, an image of the art piece itself.
